New term, new house, new blog…

Apologies

  1. Sorry for not posting all summer. I was working at Chichester Festival Theatre as Assistant Director on Toad of Toad Hall as well as holding down a part-time position in Marketing. Busy old time and not much free time on the internet.
  2. Sorry for not having my own design on here. I decided that I would create a new WordPress blog, design it nicely and start blogging on 1 September (the day I moved into my new uni house) but that all flew out of the window. I agreed to build a website for a friend’s media company (details to follow when it’s online) and that had to take precedence, so here I am with a partially-customized off-the-shelf design. I’m hoping to have my design up as soon as possible but I think it’s unlikely to be up before reading week.

So, yes, I’m back at university, at the end of my first week as a second year student. Truth be told, I’m looking forward to this year. I think it’s going to be a lot of work, a great deal of reading (but hey, that’s why I’m here) and also a bundle of theatre-making. From what I’ve experienced of my modules for this year, they’re going to be really interesting. (If you’re interested, info can be found on Warwick’s website: Romantic and Victorian Poetry, Drama and Democracy, Theatre and Theory after Artaud and Writing for Performance) I’m sure I’ll be posting more about what I’m reading as the term progresses.

In terms of theatre-making: I have a couple of directing projects I’d like to work on but nothing solid enough to talk about yet. Warwick’s lost two of its performance spaces this year (the Cooler, building works; the CAPITAL Centre, classes in the evening twice a week) so Arts Centre submissions are going to be more competitive, I feel. Perhaps off-campus is the way to go…

And, writing. What am I writing? Currently, I’m still rehashing an old short story and I’ve got thoughts for a new one. My Writing for Performance course now gives me a legitimate reason to while away my hours writing scripts and an idea for a short play is forming. More details as I try to thrash out my thoughts are inevitably to follow. There’s also talk of some informal work-sharing and group writing which sounds promising.

I think I’ll leave it there for my first post. If you’re an old friend, congratulations for finding your way over here. If you’re new here and are wondering who the hell I am, you might want to check out my old blog over on blogger. Whoever you are, thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments.
